Let's Get WV Connected! Broadband in West Virginia

Fiber in Clay, WV?

Friday, October 23, 2020: Frontier observed running fiber in Clay, WV.

Imagine that!

One of the byproducts of non-profit Broadband efforts is those efforts motivate the existing ISP’s to increase their offerings by running more lines and extending service to more people.

Some folks challenge our efforts to get Broadband in WV, citing this exact situation: “What happens if the existing telecoms smell competition in the air and start running more fiber?”.

Our response is GOOD! Too many of us in rural WV have no choice at all for Internet, or (grumble, murmur) *satellite*, which is a joke for sustainable speeds and comes with data caps. It would be quite pleasant to have more than one company offering true Broadband service to our homes and businesses. Choice? Competition? Charles Dicken’s Oliver said of soup, ‘Please, sir, I want some more.’

If our Broadband committee efforts motivate the local companies to step up their game, we see this a positive development, even if it renders our efforts for naught.
